Game Ideas Devlog
1st game idea:
My first idea is a puzzle game (possibly mimicking 2D level design) in which the main character has an living shadow.
To solve puzzles the player would need to manipulate a light source within levels to be able to walk within the shadow, to allow their own shadow to exist. Their shadow serves the purpose of helping them through levels either by lifting them up to higher levels, covering them like to armour to protect from possible enemies, creating stairways up or down, creating bridges, and just generally manipulating the evironment.
Not entirely sure how I'd begin coding this but I felt it would look best if it sort of follows them around behind them, opposite any light source and possibly projected on the wall or floor.
Alternate way this game could go is if the 'living shadow' existed in a sort of mirrored world beneath the main character and thus the player would need to manipulate the separate environments to go through, but I feel like I'd prefer if it was more intuitively use as an extension for the main character to get through the levels.
With this game I feel like the level design would be super important as well as getting the light manipulation to work.
2nd game idea:
My second idea is a simple simulator game in which the player lives atop a giant creature that is constantly moving. Think Shadow of Colosuss type creature that just slowly walks around a barren world.
The aim of the game would be: 1) to survive using solar energy, caught rainwater, and maybe catching birds that flew too close. 2) to maintain the creatures inner machine workings, think of BOTW divine beasts and tons of cogs like the inside of a clock.
A simulator game might be a lot of work for this project so I feel like the idea of being stuck on a giant moving creature could also turn into a puzzle game or something simpler.
I feel like with this game, being able to control where the creature moves to for the player to get the most of the environment would be the main focus, so think of Raft but instead of the raft its a giant moving creature.
3rd game idea:
My third idea is a shoot em' up style game where the main character is a zombie kid with detachable limbs that can be swapped in for various weapons and tools. Aim of the game is to just destroy hordes of the undead and try to escape purgatory(?).
With this game the level design could be super simple and instead we'd focus on the attachments the main character could have like grappling hooks (woo), guns, drills, flamethrowers, cryo-guns, and slime? On top of having bionic attachments, animal parts could be swapped in for certain other limbs to give the character the ability to climb really fast, jump super high, be able to swing across vines, etc.
Just up to the player as to how they end up looking in the end.
